CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It is a system pioneered in the USA by black farmer and Tuskegee Institute horticulturalist Booker T. Whatley in the 1960s as a way for black owned farms to thrive despite discriminatory government loan practices. It enables farmers to plan production, anticipate demand, and have a guaranteed market for their products. Members commit to buying a “share” of the bounty of a farm for a season, and in return, the farmers commit to providing as much local, nutritious food as they can grow to their community members.

Our CSA is “buffet style”. We’ll offer 9 - 18 different kinds of vegetables (and occasionally fruit and flowers!) each week starting June 11. You can take as much as you would like and we just ask that you only take home as much as you will actually use fresh that same week. Don’t like chard? Don’t take any. We want you to go home with vegetables you love. Making a big meal for guests? Please take home extra vegetables for it!
Do you want to do some juicing, canning, freezing or preserving? Please ask about making a bulk purchase. Your CSA share is only meant to provide enough fresh vegetables to eat, not to drink or put up extra for the winter.
At times, we might set a limit for certain items — for example, when popular crops are first starting to ripen. However, we’ve planned for there to be enough for all members to be taking as much as they like when each crop is in full swing.

The payment model for this vegetable buffet is based on household size. It costs $30 weekly for a single person to participate, with $15 for each additional person in the household over 12 years old. The CSA will run 22 Weeks, June through October, with a final “Thanksgiving” share at the end of November. For example, a family made up of two adults and one teen would pay $60 per week for all the fresh vegetables they can eat. (SNAP users pay 50% of the cost of a share, and the other 50% is covered by Double Up Food Bucks — More info below!)
Fresh eggs will be available for purchase each week during CSA pickup for $8/dozen.

Use the e-shop below to select your household size and pay online. If your household size is over 4 people (who are 12 years old or older), you need to pay in installments, are signing up part way through the season, or have any other “atypical” situation, reach out to CSA@workingtheoryfarm.com and we’ll figure out a plan.

Pickup will be on the farm every Thursday from 3:00-6:00pm. That way, CSA members can get to know the place that their food comes from and the people that grow it! Everything that isn’t taken by the end of the day will be donated the next day to our partners at Centro Cultural for their Free Food Mercado program

Yes! SNAP users will pay only 50% of the total cost for the CSA, and the other 50% is covered by Double Up Food Bucks. We ask for a $50 deposit upfront and SNAP accounts are debited on a monthly basis for the remainder of the balance.
1 Person Households pay $330 total for the full season: $50 deposit + the rest divided into 5 payments of $56 per month Jun-Oct.
2 Person Households pay $495 total for the full season: $50 deposit + the rest divided into 5 payments of $89 per month Jun-Oct.
3 Person Households pay $660 total for the full season: $50 deposit + the rest divided into 5 payments of $122 per month Jun-Oct.
4 Person Households pay $825 total for the full season: $50 deposit + the rest divided into 5 payments of $155 per month Jun-Oct.
There is no limit to household size - The total cost will just continue to follow the same formula.
To sign up using SNAP benefits, select your household size below and proceed to checkout. You will be required to input a credit or debit card during the checkout process, but will use the Discount Code “PNW CSA” to receive a 100% discount ($0 payment). Once we get your sign up, we and our partners at the Pacific Northwest CSA Coalition will reach out to start the process of collecting your EBT information.
