Join Our Board of Directors 〰️

Working Theory Farm (WTF) is expanding our Board of Directors to help steward the organization’s next chapter through strong governance, community connection, and long-term resource development.

We are a youth development nonprofit and regenerative no-till farm in Hillsboro, Oregon. Through the shared work of farming, we empower youth while growing food for community partners who distribute it to families who need it most.

Help champion our mission of youth empowerment and feeding our community through regenerative agriculture.

Serving on WTF’s Board is an opportunity to contribute your leadership, networks, and perspective to something deeply local, relational, and built for long-term impact.

We are especially seeking leaders with experience in:

Food justice, workforce development, or the carceral system

Governance, financial, or legal oversight

Fundraising and philanthropic leadership

Together, this board will help ensure the farm continues to grow with integrity, resilience, and accountability to community.

As a board member, you will help cultivate youth leadership while advancing regenerative agriculture and land stewardship.

  • • Approximately 75 hours per year

    • Roughly 6–7 hours per month, including board meetings and preparation

    • Participation in occasional farm events and community outreach

Members are expected not only to govern well, but also to contribute relationships, visibility, and practical support to the organization. Some members may choose to take on additional leadership roles that require additional time.

  • • Governance & Financial Stewardship: Approve annual budgets and review financial health, ensure legal compliance and responsible oversight, protect the organization’s long-term sustainability.

    • Resource Development & Networks: Help cultivate donors and supporters, mobilize professional and community networks, serve as ambassadors for the farm.

    • Strategic Guidance: Contribute to long-term strategy and planning, offer insight on programs, land stewardship, and partnerships.

    • Advocacy & Representation: Represent the farm in community spaces, support partnerships, advocacy, and opportunities related to land and food systems.

    • Leadership Support: Provide guidance and mentorship to leadership, participate in the Executive Director evaluation process.

  • We are building a board culture grounded in care, accountability, and collaboration.

Board members act as both compass and scaffold for the organization – helping guide long-term vision while supporting leadership in navigating opportunities and challenges.

We value board members who bring:

    • Curiosity and humility

    • Strategic thinking

    • A willingness to listen and learn

    • Commitment to equity and community wellbeing

    • Respect for the lived experiences of the youth and communities we serve

"I came to the farm hoping to learn basic farming skills. It ended up being far more transformative than I imagined. I didn’t just learn how to grow food — I gained confidence, leadership skills, and a deeper love for supporting my community."

Why Serve on the Working Theory Farm Board?

Working Theory Farm is more than a farm.

It is a place where youth reconnect with land, community, and possibility.

Each season, youth who have often been excluded from traditional systems step onto the farm and experience something different: shared work, trust, responsibility, and belonging.

Together we grow food that nourishes families who may not otherwise have access to fresh, pesticide-free produce.

Serving on the Working Theory Farm Board is an opportunity to help steward this work for the long term.

As a board member, you will help:

  • Support a youth-centered workforce and leadership development program

  • Strengthen community food systems and food access

  • Advance regenerative agriculture and land stewardship

  • Build bridges between community, policy, and resources

  • Ensure the long-term sustainability of a farm dedicated to equity and opportunity

We are looking for board members who believe in the power of land, community, and young people.

Because this work matters
